Jennifer Heisinger directs the band program at St. Francis, St. John & Trinity Schools. She has a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education from Ithaca College (Ithaca, NY). Mrs. Heisinger has been directing the parochial school band program in Merrill since the ’06-‘07 school year. She has previously taught music in the Mercer School District and grades 5 – 8 band in the Marshfield Area Catholic Schools.

Any student in grades 4 through 8 can participate in the band program. Instruments students can choose to play are: any woodwind instrument (i.e. clarinet, flute, saxophone); any brass instrument (i.e. trumpet, trombone) or percussion. Instruments can be rented from Merrill House of Music or another music store in the area. There is one trombone at St. Francis that can be used by any band student, free of charge; see Mrs. Heisinger for more information. It is the responsibility of the student to supply his/her own instrument, purchase his/her own book and supply any other items needed for his/her instrument (ex. reeds, swabs, valve oil, etc.). The lesson book series we use is Accent on Achievement.

There is a fee for band; for the 2012-2013 school year, the cost of band at St. Francis is $55 per student, per school quarter. Total cost for the school year is $220. Band lessons are 30 minutes long and are currently on Thursdays during the school day. Students will have either an individual or small group lesson. Besides weekly lessons, band students also perform in two combined concerts with other students from St. John & Trinity during the school year - one in December and one in the spring. Students will also perform one concert for the students at their own school in the spring. Besides concerts, students also have opportunities to play in Mass or at other school functions that become available.

If you would like more information on the band program, please contact Mrs. Jennifer Heisinger by e-mail: or phone: 715-536-4180. You can also contact her at St. Francis on Thursdays - 715-536-6083.

The goal of the Children’s Choir program is to teach children in grades 2 – 5 the joy of singing and artistic expression within the context of a Catholic community of faith.  Regular participation in church liturgies is an expected component of this choir.  Members of the Children’s Choir program are actively involved in the spiritual and liturgical life of the church.  They serve as ministers of music at selected liturgies throughout the year.

Minnie Vinnies is a service club for the Middle School associated with St. Vincent de Paul. They meet once a month to perform service projects of their choice which include visiting Bell Tower Residence to play games with the residents, walking dogs at the Humane Society, being pen pals with children in Africa, collecting food for the Food Pantry, and raising money for mission trips.

Student Council

Student Council is a student-based civic organization designed to help promote school spirit and leadership among students. Students in grades 5-8 are allowed to run for positions that include President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Classroom Representative. Student Council members must be very responsible people who are willing to work hard. The St. Francis Student Council sets up functions like dances, movie nights, candy cane sales, and other wonderful all-school events.

Homework Club

Stop the battle between students and parents when it comes to completing homework at home! St. Francis students have the opportunity to complete their homework after school under the supervision of Mrs. Schmidt.
